Japanther plays to synchronized swimmers, Doug Aitken talks, I drink.

When I was younger, taking swimming lessons at my grandmother’s waspy country club I would do little water somersaults, underwater handstands, and pirouettes all performed in a blue and black leopard one piece. I thought I was very cute, and when I jumped headfirst into the water to do my handstands, I thought fer sher that all the little Anglo boys with their collars turned up agreed with me. Unfortunately, for my young love life, they never knew I existed instead opting for the blondes, which led me to throw myself into my 'craft' of creating an extensive series of water ballets. I imagined Baryshnikov calling, discovering the underground talent he had been looking for. I don't remember exactly what happened to that dream, but something tells me it got lost around the time I discovered DJ Quick and 40s (read: Zima). You can imagine then how it warmed my heart to see Japanther perform a synchronized swimming event choreographed by Olympic medalist Lauren McFall at NYU the other night.

In what was one of the more bizarre events I had attended to in a while, Japanther played, the swimmers kind of synchronized, and at the end a couple audience members jumped into the pool to the dismay of the pool's staff.

Then it was on to keep the dream alive, when a little taste of summer weather graced us and visions of months full of beer gardens and beaches danced in my head....here we are at Lorely:

Not much makes me want to go out to Queens, but there is a house there that has converted the upstairs area into a bar and the downstairs has a bowling alley. Every once in a while there is a party that usually ends up being fun. On this night, the techno was giving me bad glow stick flash backs, but the tracers went away after a couple rounds of bowling.

On Saturday, a recipe for any wet dream I might have: art, men, vodka, Doug Aitken and Black Dice occurred. Creative Time presented an evening with Doug Aitken, Vito Acconci, Jeff Koons and Miranda July with a performance by Aa and Black Dice, film screenings and plenty of open bars, in an asbestos lined abandoned building on Delancy St. On paper it sounded great, but the crowd of people drinking, faulty microphones and the set up for the talks didn't translate well in person. Nonetheless, I always enjoy a good art party:

You didn't think the bourgeois art crowd would go in any normal porta potty? This is the Mercedes of the porta potties - it even had lounge music when you went inside and smelled more flowery than any of my girl friends on a good day.
